Week One: 30-Minute Personal On-boarding Session with Michelle
“Paired with the diamond earrings of determination and capability, financial self-confidence is the best outfit in your closet."
Whether you wish to bust through past financial barriers, conquer lingering fears, or finally feel in financial control, this call will help you:
•Set yourself up for success
•Find your confidence
•Identify past roadblocks
•Articulate your desires and goals
•Hit the ground running with an immediate boost of clarity and confidence
Week Two: Break from the Chaos
“Procrastination is, hands down, our favorite form of self-sabotage”
We believe that procrastination is the by-product of not knowing how or where to start. This session will help you confront head-on where you feel financially disorganized. We tackle common concerns experienced at the beginning of this journey that can cause feelings of being overwhelmed, anxious and flustered. We dive into ways of understanding what you have and help you set yourself up for organizational success with some of our proprietary tracking spreadsheets and systems. We tackle the ever-expanding universe of tech apps that aim to bring order to your finances. Setting your financial foundation on solid organizational soil is a key to feeling in control and steadied.
Week Three: ‘AlphaBet(a)’ Soup-Why Demystifying Financial Jargon Matters
“Replace ‘I have a stupid question’ with ‘I have a clarification question’. Immediately feel the difference in your power and energy”
Asking the right questions is a key to feeling financially capable. Knowing key financial terms and concepts ensures your financial foundation starts solid. The overuse of arcane terminology and acronyms can make the most confident woman feel marginalized and incapacitated. Demystifying jargon is a key step on the path to becoming the CFO of your life. Asking the first question is valuable (and easy). Knowing what the 2nd, 3rd and 4th questions to ask is priceless. Leave this session with a sense of pride and the courage to know that the only stupid thing about a question is the person that makes you feel stupid by asking it.
Week Four: The Risks in Your Life May Not Be What You Think
“Opportunity and Risk Come in Pairs”
There are many options for dealing with the risks in your financial life. You can try to avoid risk. You can transfer risk. You can accept risk. Or you can reduce risk. This session will dive deep into covering the risks you may be familiar with such as investment risk or having enough insurance. As important is attending to risks lurking in the background (think proper ‘digital hygiene’ and financial cybersecurity).
Week Five: ‘The Starting Point Matters’ and the Sequence of Returns
“Those who have knowledge, don’t predict. Those who predict, don’t have knowledge.”
Trying to predict the ‘right’ time to invest is an impossible goal. This session dives into historical data on different starting points in the market over a 20-year time horizon to illustrate the dramatic impact timing can have on your net worth. Think wide-angle lens over time vs. a zoom lens in the short term. Exploring dollar-cost-averaging and short-term liquidity strategies can mentally ease you into a long-term plan with the confidence to start and the data to support investment return assumptions.
Week Six: Behavioral Finance Potholes and How to Avoid Them
“Do exactly the opposite of what the sheep are doing to become the Shepherd”
Behavioral finance is a growing field that applies psychology to financial decision-making. It attempts to understand why rational people sometimes make irrational decisions when it comes to their money. With COVID19 as a backdrop, understanding behavioral finance is more important than ever. This session will decrypt behavioral biases and educate you to spot decision-making errors that could derail your financial plan.
Week Seven: When Your Portfolio Becomes Your Paycheck
“Money is only a tool. It will take you wherever you wish, but it will not replace you as the driver.”
When alimony and child support ends, your portfolio becomes your paycheck. The fear of running out of money is real and can be terrifying. Forging a clear path for lifelong financial security can alleviate this fear. ‘Stress-testing’ your plan annually adds another layer of comfort. In this session, we deepen your understanding of how to create a sustainable rate of withdrawal from your assets so that your money outlasts inflation, taxes, and you. A more in-depth understanding of asset allocation and determining a balanced way to invest will help you feel more self-reliant and confident in your ‘money-ability’.
Week Eight: It’s a Wrap
“I don’t like to give advice. I like to give people education because everyone’s life is different, and everyone’s journey is different.”
This 30-minute personal Wife2CFO wrap-up call will offer you the opportunity to make your going-forward game plan with Michelle. Whether it be revisiting key concepts or mapping out your next steps in order to cement the learnings of the past 8 weeks, move ahead with a healthy, confident attitude toward your money and take your place among the financially aware Wife2CFO alumnae.
